-In June 2025, the United States  Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced its abrupt decision to eliminate the Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Deferred Action policy. The termination of the policy places immigrant children/teens, who were already determined by the USCIS to be in need of protection. At risk of labor exploitation and deportation- left to fend for themselves in the unregulated labor market that is rife with trafficking/abuse. (USCIS, 6/25)

-In July 2025, Congress passed the H.R.1 bill that includes about $75 billion for ICE over four years. ICE then becomes the highest funded federal law enforcement agency, under this bill, compared with the FBI's and the DEA's existing budgets. (The Poynter Institute, 7/25)
