-On June 9, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security terminated Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Nepal. TPS was first designated for Nepal in 2015 when a deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake made it unsafe to return home. Presently, Nepal continues to face significant risk from natural disasters as well as from deteriorating rule of law. (Asian Americans Advancing Justice, 6/25)
-As of September 2025 the U.S. Travel Advisory for Nepal advised travelers to reconsider travel to Nepal because of civil unrest and related safely concerns. (travel.state.gov, 9/25)
-Approximately 8,000 Nepalis TPS holders, many of whom have lived in the U.S. for over a decade, and who have contributed an estimated $260301 million to the U.S. economy, are at risk for deportation. They were given 60 days. AAJC stated, "Advocates called the termination senselessly cruel." (AAJC, 6/25)
